Fresh ingredients to cook at home? Cooking? ME in the kitchen? We all know it’s one of my least favorite things to do in life. As I do more of it though, and the kids help in the kitchen, it’s not as bad these days. Don’t roll your eyes, thinking I’m blowing sunshine up your butts. Truly, when fresh ingredients are delivered to my house from a place like Home Chef, it’s pretty cool. What’s most important with meal delivery service companies? For me, at least, is easy recipes to follow. Fresh food, with easy recipes, and great kid chef helpers!

Everyone knows I burn myself making toast in my toaster oven. Like, not just a little burn. Wicked flesh on fire, kids screaming in horror at the sight human flesh in flames, kind of burns. It’s not pretty. I admit it. Surprisingly, I’m good with a knife. Go figure. What’s my point here? My point is, I’m not without skills. It’s just best if I stay away from any kind of oven. I’m best when I’m slicing, dicing, and cooking on the stove top.

With most of the meal delivery services I’ve tried in the past, they focus on creating recipes that have you cooking on a stove top. At least, that’s been my experience. I love not having to worry about sticking my hands into a toaster oven, or a real oven. I love a good casserole, and baked pastas, but I prefer putting those together and having someone else throw those suckers into the oven. Actually, it’s the pulling out the items from the oven, that causes me burn issues. I’m an idiot, what can I say? Absent minded, and unaware of my hot surroundings.

Home Chef provided me with two amazing meals, both had an oven aspect to them. YIKES!

Home Chef tested my oven skills for sure

When the recipes showed up with my fresh ingredients to cook, I cringed. Potatoes had to go in an oven, and chicken, too? Yikes. Both meals, incorporating my oven, can I do this without a trip to the ER for burns? Home Chef was testing me. Could I conquer my kitchen? My entire kitchen? It was on like DONKEY KONG.

Skinny Chicken Mozzarella

Chicken was portioned out for me. Ingredients, too. The only scary part? Having to use the dreaded oven. Now, people, I rarely use the full sized oven in my kitchen. I go for the toaster oven, because it’s easier. Since the meals I chose were for two people at a time, and not the family versions, using the toaster oven was a great choice. Amazingly, I didn’t burn myself when making the chicken.

Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Luckily, I’m a big fan of spinach and kale. I ate most of it, and Little Miss decided to try it. The garlic in it won her over. The chicken was juicy, and both kids liked the chicken. What we all didn’t totally love? The sauce. We’re sauce snobs, since we usually make our own. Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty. However, for me, I probably wouldn’t order another meal that included a sauce made by Home Chef. I’ll stick to the non-tomato sauced based meals.

Since I’m trying to drop some weight, the portion sizes were great. Especially all the spinach and kale!

Parisian Bistro Steak

Hands down, most delicious steak meal I’ve had at home. I chose this one for one reason, and one reason only: my son. The Boy loves steak, and it’s one of the few things he eats. I wish I had gotten enough to feed four people, just so he could have it another night. He devoured his steak, and shared it with his sister. Little Miss has never tried steak before, because she usually turns her nose up at the thought of steak.

Since she helped prepare the meal, including cutting the ends off of the green beans, she gave it a try with the sauce. She loved it. The steak was cooked perfectly, if I do say so myself. I most enjoyed it, and the sauce. What I loved the most about this meal, though? The potatoes. OH MY LORD. Creamy, tasty, and even though I had to use the toaster oven to complete that particular part of the meal, it all worked out!

If given the chance, I’ll be ordering Parisian Bistro Steak again. The kids can have the green beans. I tried them, because Little Miss cut them, but for me….I’m happy to pass on those! Bring on the spinach and kale from my Skinny Chicken Mozzarella meal!

Will I order from Home Chef again?

The fact that the recipes are super easy to follow, and the meats were superior quality, I’m going to be ordering from Home Chef again. I need simple recipes, and food that simply tastes fresh, and delicious. I’m a simple girl, and the kids like to keep it simple, too. When they help in the kitchen, the simple recipes work very well for us. We’re not chefs, and Mama Sunflower just likes to avoid getting burned in the kitchen while preparing FRESH ingredients for myself, and the sunflowers.

Home Chef is perfect for our trio! Head over to Home Chef and see if it’s a good choice for you!
